Suri town is an important name in the history and administrative area of Birbhum district. This town is also quite noteworthy from the point of view of the district's theatre culture. Theatre practice started here under the cultural influence of Kolkata even before independence. This had an impact on Birbhum's overall theatre practice. Gradually, the idea of group theatre came into being in this amateur theatre practice. From there, the first theatre group of this city 'Nirmalshib Natyasamaj' was born. Along with this, the name Nirmalshiv Bandyopadhyay emerged in the district's theatre field. Who left a deep impression on the life of the writer Tarashankar Bandyopadhyay. At the same time, he became the first playwright of the district whose plays were also performed on the professional stage of Kolkata. The history of Suri town and its early theatre practice was intertwined with all this. Which influenced theatre practice in the entire Birbhum district for the next many decades. This article will play the role of the narrator of that journey. Keyword: Theatre of Birbhum, Suri, Nirmalshib Bandyopadhyay, Nirmalshib Natyasamaj, History of Birbhum. |
