ABSTRACT
In ancient times, India was one of the pioneering lands where the radiant light of knowledge first emerged. Indian civilization and culture, with its remarkable tradition of knowledge upheld through oral preservation, is beautifully enshrined in its multifaceted literary heritage. In the current era of cultural and educational prosperity, the revered practices of ancient knowledge have been revived and embraced. India's vast treasure of knowledge, preserved in manuscripts filled with the wisdom of guru-disciple tradition and adorned with exquisite literary artistry, reflects the profound fulfillment of ultimate self-realization. How far does the eternal repository of India's scriptural knowledge align with the relevance and reasoning in the domains of modern science and education? The manuscripts, shrouded in the profound truths of religion, science, medicine, astronomy and philosophy hold knowledge crucial for the betterment of humanity. India's cultural heritage finds its profound and multidimensional expression in the Sanskrit manuscripts which encompass humanistic principles and spiritual wisdom.  The transformation of language, literature and semantics through the ages finds its essence in the art of ancient manuscripts. The growth of historical completeness stems from the examination of manuscripts with diverse narrative styles. The paper “The necessity of manuscript studies in Indian intellectual heritage” will analyze and describe the relevance of manuscript studies in modern times by bridging the perspective of ancient and contemporary scholars.
