The Growing Geostrategic Importance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for India: An Analytical Review

ABSTRACT
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands is a union territory of India, located in the northeast of the Indian Ocean near the Malacca Straits, one of the world’s busiest and critical sea channels. The region is of immense economic and military importance to India because of its location at such an important place and its vast natural resources. Using this landmass, India is developing a foreign policy with its Southeast Asian neighbors such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar and implementing the Act East Policy. This article discusses the historical context of Andaman and Nicobar and analyses its growing importance for India. Additionally, the article discusses the importance of the Malacca Straits in the Indian Ocean Region and China's presence in the region.
