ABSTRACT | ||
Modernity entered somewhat late Bengali poetry of North Bengal. Pre-independence Bengali poetry emulated Rabindranath’s poetry. In the 1950s poets of North Bengal were grappling with the complexities of life. The dismemberment by partition took place before the wounds of World War II and humanity were healed. The much-desired freedom was achieved in deep disappointment. The cry of displaced people and, their life in the shelter of refugee camps, the colonization of colonies built in a head-to-head fight, lack of food, daily life of the landless peasants with no means to pay debts of the landlords, death of the tea workers caused by starvation endangered northern poets. As a result, Bengali poetry of the sixties and seventies of North Bengal epitomized contemporary social reality. North Bengal poetry of the eighties and nineties also absorbed the ideas of modern theory. Thinkers like Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Roland Barthes, Levi Strauss etc. have influenced the world of poets. Roland Barthes announced the death of the writer and the text influenced, so to say, the text of Ferdinand de Saussure. As a result, a different type of speech was developed in the text of the poems of. Saussure Lang and Parol; The concept of symbols and significance which he presented played an important role in the field of literary criticism and creativity. Jacques Lacan's philosophy of alienation, Michel Foucault's world of thought, Jean Badrilla's concept of commodification, Jacques Derrida's theory of deconstruction, Noam Chomsky's universal linguistics have built different schools of thought in modern thought. As a result, the poetry of North Bengal in the 8th and 9th decades moved forward with the richness and diversity of postmodernism. The concerned article will deal with how the postmodern ideas are active in the poetry of some poets like Samar Roychowdhury, Bijay Dey, Shyamal Singh, Bikash Sarkar and so on. Keywords: Colonization, symbols, significance, dismemberment, modernity, post modernity, humanity. |
