Nadia in the Freedom Movement: Unseen Pages of a Familiar Chapter Prasenjit Sikdar, Research Scholar, University of Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal, India
ABSTRACT | ||
After the Battle of Plassey, colonial rule was established in Bengal. Later, it was the British government that granted Nadia the status of a district. The brave sons of Mother India were committed to bringing back the glory of independence in exchange for their lives. Just as the sunset of independence took place in the verge of Nadia, the brave sons of Nadia sacrificed their lives for the sunrise of independence. Whether it was the Congress movement or the armed revolutionary movement, the revolutionaries of Nadia were at the forefront. Starting from the Blue Rebellion, the anti-British movements like Swadeshi, Non-Cooperation, Civil Disobedience, and Quit India Movements were supported by the patriots of this district, who formed the revolutionary public opinion in favour of them. They also made a significant contribution to the armed revolutionary movement. People from all walks of life, irrespective of caste, religion, and colour, joined this pro-independence movement. Even the women's power did not keep itself behind from this great anti-British liberation movement. This research paper highlights the neglected aspects of the freedom struggle of the patriots of Nadia district in the freedom movement.
