ABSTRACT | ||
Literature is purely a medium of self-gratification. Different writers compose their literature in different ways and the reader gets satisfaction from savoring that literature from different perspectives. However, children’s literature is a distinct genre of literature, where children’s literature authors have to focus on two special aspects. One – the self-perception of the writer’s own childhood life. Two - Literature should become enjoyable for the child. Yogindranath Sarkar is one of the founders of children’s literature in Bengali literature; Who at the same time made children’s literature a means of self-realization for children and enjoyable for children In 1910, Yogindranath wrote ‘Chhotder Ramayana’. Yogindranath Sarkar has sometimes added, condensed, and completely omitted the original story of Krittivasa’s Ramayana to make the story of Ramayana more heartwarming for the entertainment of children. How much child-impressive and child-entertaining Yogindranath Sarkar’s ‘Chotder Ramayana’ has become will be clarified through discussion in the following episodes – A) In terms of geographical identity B) In mythological context C) In the context of defining different relationships separately D) In terms of informing about ancient medicinal plants Through the explanatory discussion, we can come to the conclusion that Yogindranath has either completely excluded the story from the original Ramayana narrative, partially excluded or narrowed it, and elsewhere expanded or added it. And the only reason for this is to entertain children or give interest in literature to children. And this is how Yogindranath’s ‘Chotder Ramayana’ has become an independent reading of children’s literature. Keywords: Ramayana, Krittivasa’s Ramayana, children’s literature, Chotder Ramayana, Yogindranath Sarkar. |
