ABSTRACT
The course of life changes according to the laws of time. The experience that is acquired in the context of various daily events in life has been traditionally passed on from one generation to another, which is called proverbs. The origin of proverbs is rooted in the context of experience, so changes can be observed in proverbs too because of the change in time, environment, and circumstances. If a proverb is created in accordance with the knowledge gained from a particular experience, sometimes differences in status or material can be observed in the same experience over time. That is why the same type of experience-based proverbs can be observed to be transmitted. In terms of transmission, it can be said that the proverb itself is an ever-moving linguistic element that is still evolving in society. Sometimes its form is the same as before, and sometimes it changes slightly. It is because of the characteristics of transmission from generation to generation that proverbs created long ago are still alive and have acceptance in society. Since its creation, sometimes it changes in form while at other times it remains unchanged and is used by people. In the field of change, linguistic and morphological changes can be observed. However, in most cases, the semantic form or coherence of the proverb is maintained. In the present article, the aspect of the flow and change of proverbs prevalent in the Assamese language has been discussed.
