ABSTRACT | ||
Siddheshwar Chattopadhyay is one of the dramatists in modern Sanskrit literature. He was not only a playwriter, but also a actor, dramatist and playdirector. He was born on 27th February,1918 in Nahata village of present day in Jessore district. He was directly involved in politics from his school days. He was imprisoned several times for this reason. The injustice, tyranny and corruption of post-independence India had scarred the playwriter. He raised his voice against lawlessness and corruption through his drama. The Eastern and Western dramas were involved in his entire pursuit. At the very beginning of the play Nandi, Sabha Puja, naming of characters, content of the play, characterization, Bharatavakya, exceptional novelty can be noticed everywhere. Originality can be seen in each of his plays. He revealed the nature of truth in every play. His plays focus on politics at the national level and international level. The purpose of this article is to analyze his contribution in the realm of his work on the history of sanskrit drama.
