ABSTRACT
Adolescence is a crucial developmental phase, particularly for rural youth facing unique socio-economic challenges. This research aimed to understand the adaptation of adolescents in Melur Block, focusing on the influence of parents' occupation, medium of instruction, and age. Utilizing a descriptive research design, data was collected from 258 randomly selected adolescents through a standardized Lifestyle Scale and semi-structured interviews, followed by statistical analysis via chi-square and ANOVA tests in SPSS. Findings indicated a significant correlation between parents' dual income and higher lifestyle adaptation among children. Moreover, the use of Tamil as the medium of instruction correlated with an academically inclined lifestyle. Age-related trends showed younger adolescents prioritize academics and social interactions, while older teens focus on careers and family. Future research is suggested to employ longitudinal designs across diverse regions and qualitative methods, while practical strategies include enhancing college education, implementing health-oriented curricula, bolstering family support systems, and promoting women's employment and native language education to foster positive adolescent development in rural areas.
